Hélène Falcon | We Thought We Could Cage the World and We Caged Ourselves

June 9 - 25 . 2023

Opening Reception with the artist : Saturday . June 10th . 3-6pm

My work focuses on responsibility and interconnectedness. I strongly believe that Western society, dominated by greed and control, needs to open the heart in order for the next generations to survive. I started using the arts for social change after working with a Lakota activist in 2005. I am in ongoing conversations with an enrolled member of San Felipe Pueblo, NM, an activist who cares about the community and its future.

I see the artist as one who inquires, one who challenges, one who bridges, one who can hopefully bring about some healing, or at least start conversations, with communities at large, across the board.

My collages use simple geometric shapes, which can be contrasted with more organic ones. I use some markings and incorporate various worn materials. Structures can be challenged, revisited, shifted, and reframed, both visually and metaphorically.
