Adin Murray : Springtime on the Marsh | Process and Place

February 28 - March 12 . 2023

The artist will be on site in the gallery drawing and painting. Public is invited.

Adin Murray speaks about the impetus for this show which is a prelude to his larger exhibition coming in August 2023:

While this show is a preview of forthcoming work that will be on view this summer, it is also intended to give the viewer a peek into the process that I employ to create my work.  Consisting of three works—a preparatory drawing, a preparatory oil study, and the final large format painting—the show presents the fundamental stages in the development of the final piece.  The drawing helps me construct the composition, tonal quality, and general familiarity with an image.  The oil study continues the process of the aforementioned and brings color development into the mix.  These are then used as templates/guides for the final work.  While each piece informs the others, they are fully realized and unique stand-alone works. There are countless other steps involved in the creation of a painting—from getting out in nature to find source material and inspiration, to building the support and stretching the canvas—but this show intends to distill the process and allow the viewer some insight into my studio practice.”
