Bobbi Kovner | Green Resolutions #1-12
June 1 - 30, 2024
Opening Reception with the artist Saturday June 1st from 3:00-5:30pm
I am besotted by plants and flowers -their form, their color, their contrasting meaning and function...
As markers of seduction and marriage, birth and death, serenity and celebration;
As sexual receptables vibrating with thrum, buzz, wind and heat;
Indoors as cut, curated artistry and ornament;
Devolving from their prime into rank chaos - faded, battered, hanging by single thread to a stalk.
The paradox of these opposites exhilarates.
How to include both states, without erasing one …..
Abstract marks overlay representational botanical forms;
Textured, built-up areas loom over drawn remnants;
Earliest marks resist, remain …. the painting’s history still visible.
Illuminated stems and seeds impose paths, hint at water channels, road systems, and organic networks - be they brain or heart.
